WSU, CAHNRS, and Department of Horticulture Scholarships

Students may gain access to all departmental and CAHNRS scholarships via the WSU online scholarship application. Filling out this one application allows each student to be considered for thousands of scholarships at university, college, and departmental levels. There are hundreds of scholarships available within CAHNRS with values ranging from $100 to $4,000. Students must file this application every year that they are enrolled at WSU.

The deadline to apply for all WSU, CAHNRS, and departmental scholarships is January 31 of each year.


Mukilteo Way Garden Club Scholarship

The Mukilteo Way Garden Club is pleased to offer its annual Horticulture Scholarship to be used for 2020-21 academic classes at an accredited college or trade school in the state of Washington. High school seniors, college students, anyone currently working in horticulture and related fields or those interested in beginning a new path into those fields are eligible. Classes must be in horticulture or horticulture-related fields and may be taken in pursuit of a degree as well as for augmenting career goals.

Proven Winners is looking to the future, and the future of our industry depends on the young people behind us. We want to assist and recognize the academic talent that exists across North America by presenting scholarships to students in both 4-year universities as well as community colleges and vocational schools. In 2014, we were proud to award $25,000 in scholarships and in 2015, we were excited to increase that amount to $35,000. Apply for your scholarship by April 1.

National Garden Club

NGC is proud of its college scholarship program which offers financial aid to students majoring in fields of study related to horticulture and the environment. Applicant must be planning a career related to gardening, landscape design, environmental issues, floral design or horticulture. Check your State Garden Club for scholarship opportunities.

  • One-year scholarships are available to undergraduate juniors, seniors and graduate students pursuing a Master’s Degree.
  • Equal opportunity shall be provided to all applicants.
  • Sophomores may make application for their junior year.
  • Application must be typed and include a small glossy color head photo

Brighter Blooms Nursery

Brighter Blooms Nursery gives out scholarships twice a year. One scholarship will be awarded after the December 20th deadline. And the other will be awarded after the July 20th, 2019 deadline.

Students who are interested in applying should meet these requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled in a high school (public, private or home school), technical school or college in the United States.
  • Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (or equivalent score on other grading scales).
  • Students with an expressed interest in horticulture, plant breeding, landscape design or related field.

True Leaf Market

True Leaf Market is proud to support the agricultural sciences. Each year, we offer two $1000 scholarships to college students involved in the agricultural sciences. We encourage students in both graduate and undergraduate programs to apply for this scholarship, which will allow them to showcase the skills and knowledge they’ve learned in their agriculture-related field. We want applicants to demonstrate their knowledge with confidence while fulfilling the requirements for this scholarship. Overall, our aim is to encourage students to exercise what they have learned while bettering the world around them. Deadline to apply is July 29.

Western Reserve Herb Society

Two (2) undergraduate scholarships for the year 2019-2020.
The deadline to apply is February 28, 2019.
$12,500 Award and a $10,000 award
This horticulture scholarship is open to citizens of the United States who have completed the 2nd/Sophomore year of undergraduate study. The applicant must be attending an accredited college or university and have achieved a grade point average of 3.2 or above.

The scholarship award will be made to the student who demonstrates financial need and plans a career in horticulture and allied fields. The award will be sent directly to the financial aid office for payment toward tuition and books.

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate exceptional dedication to horticulture and whose career goals may involve work in areas such as teaching/research, the public or nonprofit sector, or sustainable agriculture.

AmericanHort Scholarships

The AmericanHort Mission is to unite, promote, and advance our industry through advocacy, collaboration, connectivity, education, market development, and research.  The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI) is the foundation for AmericanHort.  The online application for scholarships generally opens in April.

American Floral Endowment Intern Scholarship Programs

  • Vic and Margaret Ball Floriculture Internships
    Training is available at floriculture production greenhouses within the U.S. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, interns receive a cash scholarship ranging from $1,500 to $6,000.
  • Mosmiller Internships
    Internships are for 10 to 16 week periods at a retail florist, wholesaler, or allied trade company. Interns are paid by the employer during the training and upon successful completion of the program requirements, receive a $2,000 cash scholarship.

American Society for Horticultural Science

The ASHS Scholars Award was established by the ASHS Board of Directors for the purpose of recognizing and supporting scholastic achievement and to encourage career development in horticultural science at the undergraduate level.  Deadline to apply: 4 February.

Requirements

Two annual scholarships in the amount of $1500 will be given to each of two undergraduate students majoring in horticulture at a four-year institution of higher education who meet the criteria listed below:

  1. An undergraduate student of any class standing at the time of the application
  2. Registered as a full-time student (minimum 10 credit hours) and actively pursuing a degree in horticulture
  3. Excellence in academic and scholastic performance in the major (an area of horticulture) and supporting areas of science
  4. Participation in extracurricular, leadership and research activities relating to horticulture
  5. Participation in university and community service
  6. Demonstrated commitment to the horticulture science profession and related career fields
  7. Related horticultural experiences
